Augmented human

Augmented human is a term used to describe a human whose functions and abilities have been altered through the use of technologies. This effect increases the efficiency, productivity and capability of the human. It is also a medium for empowering and offering improvements for human health and quality of life.

Emerging technologies that are currently being tested or tried in augmenting human include:

Genetic Engineering

This is also known as gene therapy, it is the process of correcting a defective gene responsible for a particular genetic disease through the use of recombinant DNA technology. They are grouped into two which are somatic gene therapy and germline gene therapy

These are tools that have been created to enhance and restore brain function. Tools such as Magnetic resonance Imaging (MRI), CT scans, Transcranial Magnetic stimulation (TMS). It opens up a space to study and improve brain operation and provides many new advancements and rehabilitation methods for people suffering from neurological problems.

This is a technology implanted into the human body which serves to function as the interface between the machine and the central nervous system. Cyberware can be seen from two perspectives, one is that which connects directly to the brain (headwares) E.g data jack. The second is prosthetics (Bodyware), an artificial machine used to replace a missing body part, in the medical field, it is used to save lives and improve health by allowing patients who are suffering from a bodily injury to perform well in the community.

SENS (Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence)

This is a technology aimed to curb the occurrence of age-related diseases and disorders by reducing the rate of senescence in the organism. These processes include stem cell and tissue engineering, immunotherapy, removal of telomere lengthening machinery, etc.
