Big Data and Predictive Analysis

We often get recommendations from amazon for the things we are looking for right?  How youtube recommend videos?? The algorithm used by these companies is called predictive analysis which can be performed on tons of data that is available. 

 The advancement in the field of cloud computing has made it possible to take the benefits of streamlined processes and previously available data. But today availability of a large amount of data from various social media sites has been proven a game-changer for many. These large sets of available that are available for the day in and out are called big data. 

What is big data? 

According to Gartner, big data are high volume and highly variant information assets that demand cost-effective enhanced insight automation. Let’s have a look at some statistics:

  • Almost 294 mails and 1 billion Google searches are made on daily basis. 

  • On famous social media handle called Instagram, 65,000 photos are posted per minute and 448000 tweets are composed and approximately 500 mins worth of videos are posted.

  • By the year 2022, the number of smartphones is expected to increase up to 6.3 billion. 

Why does big data and cloud go hand in hand?

 The cloud makes it possible to connect and collaborate within the organization which gives easy access to relevant analytics and data sharing to the respective employees. . These two technologies are important as sort of the ground stakes laying the groundwork for where you get the real value and that is in the convergence of those technologies with things like mobility, predictive analysis in-memory database, etc.

Predictive analysis

For performing predictive analysis large data support followed by data processing is essential which is provided by cloud computing. The algorithm predictive analysis follows is it matches currently available datasets with the previous historical patterns which require loads of data whose source is cloud. Various industry research confirms the growth in the interest of business entities in moving business intelligence to the cloud.  Big data is another key benefit cloud provides. According to Taylor, “Cloud is the source of many data sources”. Interaction with the cloud helps to improve data transmission rate.  We can see various businesses already implementing this technology for their benefit. For example,  then the treasury team at Microsoft wanted to streamline the gathering process for revenue transactions, Core Services Engineering (formerly Microsoft IT) created an answer built on Microsoft Azure Machine Learning to predict late payments. Azure Machine Learning is a cloud-based service that detects patterns based on historical data and predicts what happens to the currently access data.
