Connecting Artificial Intelligence and Physical Security

Although it's one of the oldest aspects of security systems, it plays a significant role in achieving a complete security system design. Physical security has most of its system manually operated like in using barriers, turnstile, primary & secondary fence-line, barricades, gate and lighting. But in recent times, these physical security systems have now been integrated into computer software programs so that there will be less human intervention. But the question is, "is this system completely void of human intervention, if the answer is 'No' then why do we really need it so".

Effective design and deployment of Physical Security Systems using automated processes only still have some loopholes in operation, since it's still garbage in and garbage out. It only works based on given instructions listed according to how the operator wants it to behave. This kind of system does not recognize when there is an error in the system like if an alarm has been set on a Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) system, false alarms will be imminent thereby creating room for unnecessary attention. Furthermore, compromise becomes very easy mostly as data registering and logging are manually done and remotely patrolling the CCTV cameras. However, the Physical Security System can be more enhanced and robust by integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) which will be capable of high tech simulation of human intelligence in the operating software been utilized by the entire system so that they can exhibit a semblance of the human mind. More so, they can learn the process over time, use it to solve the problem and reduce the structure that will limit human control.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Physical Security (PS)

Artificial Intelligence will change the way people see security as a whole in the coming years, a situation whereby not too many people will be seen at the scene, but it will be interesting to see how sophisticated and knowledgeable systems have become so much so that crime can no longer become a mystery to detect. It will be capable of assisting the armed guard forces and help to protect buildings and other assets. It has a smart ability to bring large sizes of data from various sensors and execute an analysis on them to enable the expose impending risks.

Access Control Using Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Access Control is occasioned to exit and enter people and items at a central or multiple points within a facility. Even with automated systems integrated at these points, vulnerability is not entirely taken away since the restriction of movement to only authorized persons is logged in by an operator who can compromise when there is a need to do so. Meanwhile, artificial intelligence will go further by granting or restricting access and monitoring and tracking operational performance and creating an alert once there is a need. In cases of quick selection of decisions in situations of detection of security threat, it can swiftly make suggestions and exhibit simultaneous emergency shutdowns or facility lockdowns at various areas.

Crime Prevention and Detection through Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence is designed to learn various changing and repetitive tasks going on within the system using modelled algorithms. This feature helps it take systematically ideal decisions capable of further strengthening the facility's security. This feature also makes it possible for it to distinguish and detect specific unauthorized personnel out of the numerous persons been recorded. Crime Prevention and Detection are a phenomenon used to describe criminal events being recorded within a facility, making it essential to integrate Artificial Intelligence technology. The embedding can be in any of these categories; reactive tasks, self-awareness tasks, and repetitive tasks. Whenever the system notices an unusual event having monitored various breaches, it triggers an alarm. It then learns the pattern of what led to the warning so that it becomes self-aware. When a similar situation occurs, it repeats the same event.

Security Operations Centre (SOC)

Whenever reports are generated manually or automatically in the Security Operations Center due to routine events, Artificial Intelligence identifies and explicitly makes these broken down to understand business owners who want to know how well their facility is secured and likely if there are vulnerable areas. In the Security Operations Center, operators can use Artificial Intelligence tool to carry-out security, risk and impact analysis, certify that data, network and applications are not vulnerable and use modelled threat analysis to spot trouble and proffer solutions. Artificial Intelligence's achievements were only tagged to very experienced and well-knowledge personnel as their responses were unfortunately reactive.

Artificial Intelligence-based Surveillance Systems

There may be surveillance systems positioned at several places, mostly desired locations, but there will be limited people to view and scan their contents. This usually leads to analyzing the video feeds after the crime has passed. But with Artificial Intelligence, it deploys the Video Analytic tool to investigate and detect unusual scenarios or behaviours real-time so that it can act to prevent or react promptly. For wide-area surveillance, robot drones are engaged to carry-out patrols mostly along perimeter fence-lines or connecting streets in a bid to monitor in case of an impending threat. These drones are intelligent machines capable of embarking on various tasks, including search and rescue. More so, monitoring and control of large crowd at access points, shopping malls or leisure parks can be tasking especially if there are few persons in the team. But with intelligent surveillance systems integrated with smart sensors every individual can be easily tracked with high capacity for recognition even under low lighting and even in cases of illegal weapon handling security personnel is alerted for an onward force to disarm and retrieve.

Conclusively, Artificial Intelligence will help to enhance security operations and even support the work of armed guards deployed to stations, and most interestingly, there will be fewer casualties, and detailed and prompt information will be received before response, and as well in warfare, robots can be deployed ahead of humans as it is already ongoing in certain spheres. In addition, effective decisions can be taken, and there will a high increase in response capability to incidents.
